About One Equal Share

What is a Time Exchange

Time Exchanges, or Time Banks as they are also called, have been around since the mid-1980's.  They are found in more than 30 countries and in more than 30 states, yet most people have never heard of them.  I first learned of the idea in February 2011 after hearing Edgar Cahn speak at UNLV.  I was amazed.  And the more people I talk to, the more possibilities I see.

Time Exchange members come from all walks of life, from all ethnic backgrounds, from all ages, from all professions, and from all education and income levels.  A Time Exchange is inclusive, cooporatiave, & collaborative.  We all have talents.  We all have value.

One of the basic tenets of Time Exchange is 1=1.  One hour of service = One hour of credit for something you need or would enjoy.  I may enjoy gardening and help someone with yard care; I may have a gift with languages and help someone learn Spanish, or I may simply have the time to drive someone to an appointment. I earn Time Dollars for each service I provide that I can use for a massage, pet care, tax advice, or anything else that is offered among the membership.  The more our community grows, the more opportunities we create for ourselves.  Friendships develop.  Needs are met without neediness.  Accountability and reciprocity bring strength and community into our individual lives.

A Time Exchange is not about charity.  It is about sharing, balance, and recognizing the value we all offer our community.  With this in mind One Equal Share operates in a traditional business model; but seeks to collaborate with community-minded businesses and local non-profit organizations.  Businesses and non-profits benefit in several ways from becoming sustaining members.  Non-profits can also benefit from a new pool of support from our Time Exchange membership.  Everyone wins.

Check us out.  Join us!  We make our community better by helping each other.
